He frowns. “I knew sonicking your logic processors like that was going to end up making you go all wibbly-wobbly…” He can’t help the grin that then spreads across his face. “That’s my girl.”

Remus watched the interaction between Abigail and The Doctor as he contemplated the Doctor’s description of his friends. The Amy Pond character seemed a bit like James — especially with the loud part. Rory seemed nice. Remus would have liked to meet Rory.

“Do androids like fictional books?” Remus asked, hoping android was the proper term for the girl. The Doctor had said she was a computer, but Remus had no idea what a computer was. Or an android, for that matter.

They rounded a corner and Remus recognized the theater immediately. He had plenty of old muggle pictures of this particular place. Three doors down stood a small cafe he also recognized. His facts were wrong. The cafe was much closer to the theater than he’d originally thought. “This is it,” he muttered, under his breath. The chances that Oscar Wilde was actually in the cafe were slim, he realized, especially on the opening week of his play. Remus tried not to get his hopes up, but it was proving hard. Oscar was his literary idol, after all.

“Again, the two are often synonymous,” the Doctor reminds him. Then, noting the self-deprecating tone which he is very adept at picking up, if only because he himself uses it often, he gapes for a moment. “Besides,” he says kindly, once he’s thought of something to say. “For a human teenager you don’t seem stupid at all to me. How many of your classmates even know who Oscar Wilde is? I’d be willing to bet that it’s very few, that not even the Muggleborns bother with things like classic literature and that sort of thing after discovering their magic.”

“Knowledge of classic muggle literature doesn’t make me smart. It makes me intelligent. Believe it or not, there is a difference.” He stated plainly. Remus didn’t find himself particularly intelligent either. He had to work for his marks. Nothing came easy to him like it did for James. but he thanked the stars he wasn’t as dim as Peter could be. Deciding to change the subject, Remus asked, “So, what are your friends like?” He was always interested in figuring out if other people had friends so insanely different from themselves, like he did.

“Sometimes I think that’s the only reason I was sorted into Gryffindor.” Remus mused, trying to leave the subject alone. He hated the statement ‘agree to disagree’, but wasn’t about to get stranded in the middle of London in 1895 - as tempting as it seemed.

“…You don’t think you’re brave, then?” the Doctor asks curiously. “After all, you did just agree to go time-travelling with an alien and subsequently sprinted off into 1895 without a care in the world. Seems brave to me. Or stupid,” he amends, “but the two are often synonymous.”

“Stupid, not brave. Boredom leads to making brash decisions. And as I said, James and Sirius are rubbing off on me” Now that the Doctor had laid his choice out so bluntly, Remus realized he had been extremely stupid to get into the ship.

“…Well I guess that makes humans chopped liver, then,” the Doctor quips. “Because of course humans aren’t at all glimpses of human capability. Let’s just agree to disagree on this one, eh? You’re young and stubborn. I’m old and stubborn. We’re not going to get anywhere.”

The Doctor raises an eyebrow at Remus. As oblivious as he is, there are some things that are a bit too blatant to be missed. After a few moments though, his face falls back to its regular expression. “I read it, but I didn’t look that much into it,” he says offhandedly. “Good books are good books. You don’t have to go digging for symbolism to just enjoy the story. For example, I once had a nun think I was Jesus Christ born again after telling her my story - minus the alien bit, of course - assuming I was, which I’m not, did you need to know that to enjoy travelling with me?” he asks. pointedly.

Remus stared at the Doctor. He’d thought was deeper than that. Slightly disappointed, Remus tried to keep in his judgements as he contemplated a response. “No, I don’t. But people are different than books. Books are well thought out written glimpses of human capability.” Sirius thought in a similar fashion as the Doctor and Remus had spent hours trying to change his mind. He hadn’t succeeded yet.

“Understandable, young man. Carry on,” the Doctor says, shooing him ahead. Better to let someone else do the running for once - because if nothing’s chasing him, he’s not bothering to do it.

Remus took a deep breath to calm his jittery nerves. He needed to reel in this excitement. Especially if he were to approach Oscar WIlde. Ignoring the Doctor’s nudge for him to go off ahead, Remus slowed his pace to walk with the Doctor. “Have you read The Picture of Dorian Gray? I was thinking about asking him about it. It’s not very famous yet, but he wrote it about five years ago.” Remus explained, forgetting himself in literature of a moment. “I’ve always thought Basil was a symbol of God and Dorian’s rebellion from him was his rebellion from Christianity. Plus, Basil is obviously obsessed with Dorian. I wonder if it’s more than friendship for him, too.” Remus added the ‘too’ without even thinking about it.

Remus returned to his now full dormitory. Peter had told the other Marauders about Remus’ odd behavior. He spent his evening trying to avoid the questions Sirius seemed intent on asking until an answer magically appeared.

The Doctor rolls his eyes. It only takes a few seconds to check what phase the moon is in tonight. New moon. Good… But then, it might be interesting to tell Remus otherwise. He follows the precocious little twerp out the doors. Idiot children running off. Good lord. He’s made up his mind - he is never taking anyone under the age of 20 on the TARDIS again.

“I can feel you judging me,” Remus called back to the Doctor, “I’m the best at silently judging people. I can assure you I am not usually so uppity and anxious. But, really,” Remus turned to look at The Doctor, “Oscar Wilde.
